World AIDS Day Event
Today is World AIDS Day. In order to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS, and reduce the stigma associated with these conditions, GMI held an awareness booth in the atrium of the Pharmacy Building. Students had the opportunity to write their thoughts surrounding HIV/AIDS on a whiteboard and share them with others. Some awareness points that were brought up include:
"AIDS doesn't discriminate"
"We need more research to get rid of HIV/AIDS"
"Replace the term "infected" with HIV with "diagnosed" with HIV"
"Use condoms"
"HIV is the strongest risk factor for developing TB"
Additionally, GMI joined forces with other pharmacy student clubs to raise funds for CANFAR (Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research) through a bake-sale! In total, we raised $263.66!
