World AIDS Day Event

Today is World AIDS Day. In order to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS, and reduce the stigma associated with these conditions, GMI held an awareness booth in the atrium of the Pharmacy Building. Students had the opportunity to write their thoughts surrounding HIV/AIDS on a whiteboard and share them with others. Some awareness points that were brought up include:

  • "AIDS doesn't discriminate"

  • "We need more research to get rid of HIV/AIDS"

  • "Replace the term "infected" with HIV with "diagnosed" with HIV"

  • "Use condoms"

  • "HIV is the strongest risk factor for developing TB"

Additionally, GMI joined forces with other pharmacy student clubs to raise funds for CANFAR (Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research) through a bake-sale! In total, we raised $263.66!
