GMI X PAIH Barriers to Indigenous Health Webinar
On Thursday, March 10th from 5-6 PM, GMI and PAIH, along with Professor Jaris Swidovich and Dr. Suzanne Stewart, hosted a webinar discussing barriers to Indigenous health and healthcare. All attendees received 1 UPS point and were entered in a raffle to win one of three $10 gift cards.
Dr. Suzanne Stewart Dr. Suzanne Stewart discussed 'Indigenous Determinants of Health'. Dr. Stewart is a member of the Yellowknife Dene First Nation. She is a psychologist and Associate Professor of Indigenous healing in Counselling Psychology at OISE/University of Toronto, where she is also Special Advisor the Dean on Aboriginal Education and the Chair of the Indigenous Education Network. Her research and teaching interest include Indigenous mental health and healing in psychology (homelessness, youth mental health, identity, and work-life development), and Indigenous pedagogies in teacher education and higher education and psychotherapy practice/training.
Jaris Swidovich Jaris Swidovich discussed 'Cultural Safety and Pharmacy Care for Indigenous Peoples'. As a Two-Spirit Saulteaux First Nations man from Yellow Quill First Nation with Ukrainian heritage, Swidrovich is widely recognized across the Canadian pharmacy landscape for his contributions to the emerging processes of decolonizing and Indigenizing pharmacy education and practice. His areas of research and practice include HIV/AIDS, substance use disorders, 2SLGBTQ+ health, Indigenous health, social determinants of health, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy / health professions education.
